If you want to build your own weapn or get help with a fix bring it and your own materials.
If you just want to help out we need as many bodies as we can to get these clubs and swords done.
we are making a mix of 10 in pvc, and fiberglass rods, etc.

If I bring a sewing machine & fabric what's the chance I can get someone to sew a cover for my axe?
I've failed 4 times at making one now.

Is EVA foam basically closed cell foam (camp pads) but thicker? And does that mean you don't need as many layers? I see a lot of weapons at practice thinner then mine and I had assumed they where Ed-Helen made from one foam piece and so thinner. So just curios on some details is all.

Bring the best job you have done I'll finish it in 5 mins. I tossed my last horrid attempts, but I'll try again this weekend and bring what I do. I'll also bring the fabric and stuff to cut out another in case I butcher this one too. Is the Williams Theatre Studio at IPFW? Do you have directions? Thanks

Shab,
Not that you should do this, but I just taped the heck out of my axe head then just covered the business end with some cloth and taped that down with no sewing. There are some folds in the fabric that could catch something, but probably not any more or less dangerous than the hook of the axehead itself. Just another option for you to think about.
Boaz,
EVA is another type of closed cell foam that comes in different thicknesses and densities. It is widely accepted as being more durable than Walmart camp pad foam.
Sorry if this is not needed, but minimum 'sword' dimensions are 3" x 1.25" for a doubled edged blade and 2.5" by 1.25" for a single edge blade. Stabby tips can not easily pass through a 2.5" hole. Non-stabbing protrusions can not pass easily through a 2" hole. The main thing is that they pass the light/medium/hard hit test (safety first).
Dimensions of non-bladed weapons (clubs) are actually getting a lot of controversy on the national boards as weapons check for Ragnarok is being discussed.
The thinness of some peoples weapons most likely comes from their core choice. 1/2 square fiberglass cores are popular. Walmart blue foam is usually just a hair less than 1/2 thick. So with a 1/2 core and a single layer on each of the flats, the minimum thickness would be just under 1.5 inches. Some places, such as Edhellen, sell kits that have foam with pre-cut grooves to get them as thin as possible.
I've used 3/4" PVC for a sword core and my blade is about 2" thick because the outer diameter of 3/4" PVC is close to 1".
Sorry for the ramble if this does not answer your question in any way. ;D

I'll just bring the axe and stuff and see what you guys think I should do.
I'm also going to bring some open-cell foam I got for free to use as you guys see fit. Not sure if it's the best stuff for Dag weapons, but might work well for stabby-tips or as a layer on a shield to give it some extra cushioning.
