If there is enough interest, we can get the funding to be in this event. Rulles are attached Trebuchet Competition: Call for Participants Wednesday, July 14, 2010 4 pm – 8 pm (Registration at 3pm) Science Central, in connection with the Three Rivers Festival, is sponsoring Fort Wayne’s answer to a Pumpkin’ Chunkin’ Contest: The 2nd Annual Science Central/ Three Rivers Festival Trebuchet Competition! We are requesting your help in getting information to any and all interested area high school students, college students, or adults, about this fun opportunity to put physics principles to work. A trebuchet is a machine much like a catapult, but powered by gravity and uses a simple lever arm, designed to throw an object great distances with accuracy. This year, we’re launching 2-pound bags of flour approximately 150 feet, targeting a 70-foot diameter circle. If you would distribute the attached flyers announcing this event to your science classes, club members, or anyone you know who’d enjoy such a contest, we would greatly appreciate it. Please note that this does not require any official participation or sponsorship by your organization, unless you so choose. We are soliciting your help because it is the most efficient manner of getting the information to a large number of interested people. I am available to meet with you, or any interested groups of potential competitors, and discuss this event further. Contact me at Shane@sciencecentral.org for questions. Also, our website, www.sciencecentral.org/trebuchetcompetition.htm, has more information. Thank you very much for any help and you can give to spread the word about this fun and educational opportunity to students and adults alike.
