Now that some of us had a pre-season practice it came to my mind to address a few thoughts. When "The Beard" has thoughts it sometimes it hurts.
But I digress,
During these pre-season practices it is important to ask questions about any fighting styles you want to get better at or may want to try out before the big season starts.
Also, its a good time to start building new shields or weapons to suit your fighting styles. Im sure those loaner equipment is great but, I think there is still some better stuff some of you guys could come up with.
Remember there are some of us willing to part our knowledge for free (or for glorious cupcakes) if you just ask.

Agreed, Mr. Beard. Although often times the loaner gear is hand-me-down items donated from vets who've made new things, that still have some good Dag life left in them, or made specifically for loaner gear and is pretty well crafted...and although it's great to have loaner gear around when someone's weapon breaks, or someone shows up out of the blue and forgets their gear, etc...
...well, it cannot be denied that truly the best gear is that which you've made to suit your own needs, custom tailored as it were to you.
I think I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a bit of a proposal that will 1) encourage members to actually work with our vets and such to get their own gear, and 2) possibly make the chapter a bit of a fund to go toward having an event this year:
Loaner-gear rental fees. Your first 2 months of fighting, no fees. After that, it's $2 in the kitty to use the loaner gear.
Anyone against this? What says thou, oh great Chieftain and mighty Dragoon Warlords?

I believe it should be until we have the first group build of the season. That way they have no excuse of why they cant build.

Well, I think 2 months is pretty darn lenient for any player to get their own sword. I purchased my own weapons within the first 2 months. I don't know virtually any fighter out there on the field who is still out there on the field regularly that didn't have their own sword or club or whatever within 2 months.
I think it's quite fair, honestly. If there hasn't been a group build, get with a vet and see if they'll help you build it. Honestly, I have found group builds to be almost utterly worthless (emphasis on the almost, they've not all been bad) because there are too many people there with too many approaches and everyone wants to ask a question and everyone else wants to give feedback. It's easier to pair up with someone and just meet up and do it.
And why bother with excuses anymore? $2 to grab a weapon if you've been fighting consistently for 2 months. $2 to grab a shield after 4 months. I think that'd be reasonable. That means if you've fought with us from Olympics to Ragnarok, effectively, you should have your own basic gear.
I don't think that's asking too much. If you don't have it by then, they you are giving us money to rent the stuff out to you, because it breaks down and then we need to build more to field the people who really do need it to learn the basics for their first set of practices.
