Ematai walked home quickly, her hand resting nervously on the sword. She had a lot of money in her pockets and didn't want to risk getting mugged this late at night. She knew that she could take them, but she was once attacked by a group and that didn't end well.
She soon relaxed as she reached her home. She went quickly through the series of locks and traps that surrounded the door and opened it, securing them all back in place once inside. She heard the scampering of bare feet as she made her way to the treasure shelf but didn't say anything. let them have their fun. They had a big day. She stowed the coins in their right jar and was happy to hear the gold jar get a little more quieter as she dropped in the 7 coins.
She went to the kids room and tucked everyone in. She kissed a few goodnight on the forehead and then shut the door, telling them if she hears any more noise they will be punished in the morning. She closed the curtain that cut off their room from hers and sat down in her bed. Once Lamp go back, she and him left again and made their way through the dark streets to their contact, both of them excited to receive many gold coins.

Silverfox sat alone in the darkest corner of an already dark bar. He'd received word that some sod wished to part with a sword of some value. While his normal trade was in selling goods, not buying them, he couldn't help but be intrigued by the somewhat familiar description of said weapon. Two figures entered the bar, seeming all too out of place in such a dreary establishment. Looking around, they finally noticed Fox sitting in the corner and quickly moved toward him. The female of the group approached the table and said "Excuse me, sir, but do you have the time?". Fox responded, "Time is one thing that no one truly has." Smiling, the girl sat her self down at the table, and laid an object wrapped in black cloth on the table itself. "Let's see what you've brought me, girlie, and be quick about it...for as I've said, time is short." The girl unwrapped the package and produced the shining sword. Silverfox, recognizing the sword, laughed. "Girl, you're either naive or stupid, and I hope for your sake that it's the former." Fox opened his cloak, quickly flashing his Dragoon standard wrapped around his belt. "Now, I'll make you a deal...you walk out of here now, without the sword...and I won't tell my cousin who filched it." To be continued... ((ooc: sorry it took so long guys, wasn't sure what role I wanted Fox to play in this ))

Ematai hesitates momentarily, and glances down at the sword.
"Well, I...Lamp, RUN!"
Ematai draws and lashes out wildy with a dagger. Lamp scurries out of the entrance. Intending to flee and find another fence, she reaches for the sword and manages to take two more steps before her dagger is wrenched from her grasp and her arm is pinned behind her back.
"You've made a mistake, girlie," Silverfow growls into her ear.
"Let me g-aah!"
Ematai's protest is cut short as the dagger is plunged into her heart.
As a red mist clouds over her vision, Ematai can hear the fence muttering as he slips the sword into his belt.
"Should've taken the deal. Let's hope you've learned something from all of this"

Long after the incident with the Dragoon, Lamp searchs around the perimeter of the bar, hoping to find Ematai's remains. Ematai's lifeless body lies near the back entrance to the bar.
Lamp slowly walks up to her, aware that someone could come out the back entrance at any moment.
As he gets near, he whispers, "Nicely worded death, rez."
Ematai springs up and gasps a huge breath of air. "Oh Lamp! Thank you!"
Lamp smiles and helps her up, still looking around. He asks "Do you have anything else besides these clothes your wearing?"
"No, I'm afraid they took the sword. I believe... No, they took the little money I brought with us, too."
Lamp helps Ematai back to their house, just as the sun is beginning to rise. They check on the children, and they are stil asleep. Ematai lays down, and Lamp retreats to his bed, in hope of getting a few minutes of sleep before the children wake up.

(OOC: Practically fell out of my seat when I read lamp's rez line)
Rowan and Shadow had traveled through much of the crowded alleyways in the night, finding little sign of Silverfox. Finally stumbling upon Silverfox's current residence in this town, Shadow noticed recently posted fliers outside the building. Upon reading the one about Dengrave in the dim morning light, he quickly ripped it off in disgust at what he thought to be scoundrelling brigands of the town. He knew he would have to change his appearance upon finding that others had found his demon's identity. How they had known, he had to find out quickly and cut the source's tongue.
"Something the matter?" grunted Rowan. "Nothing at all." Shadow said dropping the page he ripped up. "Lets get your sword back."
They silently moved into the building where Silverfox had been the night before.

Buttlebee and Ruffel stalked the little towns streets. Their dull armour clanked as they walked, even a few places stuck together and made some nasty squeaking sounds, but they heard none of that. They only had ears for the two girls that clung to each of them. The two girls had tight fitting dresses, and low cut. Their bright colors and skimpyness let the world know who they are.
"And then, Martha here threw her plate full of food at Denesse!" one of the girls, who was grasping Buttlebees arm, squealed. She laughed a loud, high pitch laugh at her own joke as she walked down the street with her man of the night.
"So tell us again what you do," Martha asked, flirting with Ruffel.
"We're on the look out for two criminals, so we hung up posters," Ruffel said, the pride flowing off his tongue.
"Oh so interesting!" Martha said, the sleeve of her shirt accidentally falling down to reveal a little more shoulder. She really thought what these two did were competely lame, but the whole army was lame. They did nothing but hang up posters and go off and fight wars that they never won. She knew that not a single person in the army was respectable, usually criminals themselves. Having a corrupt army would be enough to make anyone want to leave, but she couldn't afford it. Her life consisted of nothing except looking pretty to gain a few extra gold pieces. She had considered asking the Ematai girl for help, maybe get trained, but she didn't think she was cut out a life stealing stuff.
Martha was lucky though. She lived in territory that was overrun by the Dragoons. These people were respectable, able to win the wars they fight, and they cared about the people around them. If they saw someone in trouble, they would defiantly help them out, unlike the army men. Martha just smiled and nodded her head, her dainty hand rubbing Ruffel's arm, dreading the night coming at her quickly.
[ooc: Charlie, that ticked me off what you did with Buttlebee and Ruffel, they aren't good guys, so don't even try and make them out to be. Putting them in the army...they attacked people. I made the army corrupt only cause of that. The Dragoons are the real upstanding army in the Northern Steppes.]
Ematai and Lamp sat down on the floor in the middle of the main room, the children sitting in front of them. They were scared because they had seen the new posters hanging up around town, afraid that their only source of living would be taken away from them. If Ematai and Lamp were to be arrested and killed, they would be thrown out into the streets and would certainly die themselves.
Ematai tried her best to comfort them, along with Lamp, "Honestly children, do you not think you can take care of yourselves? Have I not taught you anything? You can live without me right now if you wanted!"
"You're all just a bunch of moochers," Lamp said smiling. The children laughed nervously. "And do you think that Ematai or Lamp would get captured? No, plus its the army...what are they going to do besides put up a front and hang up posters?" The children laughed again, their minds slowly becoming at ease.
They chattered for a little bit longer before Ematai dismissed them, telling them to go outside and play. It was a nice winter day, the snow was starting to melt and a promise of Spring was in the air. Ematai knew it wouldn't last, maybe a day or two. Might as well send them out while she can.
"How are you doing?" Lamp asked as he helped Ematai off the floor. Ematai grunted, her responce. She was sore and her heart still gave her problems every once in a while. She stood still for a moment once she got up, waiting for her black vision to go away. When she could see clearly, she looked over at Lamp. "I want my sword back."

The long winter had finally come to pass. Soon spring would come. The encampment would again become busy. I hadn't seen Rowan, my cousin, for two days now. But that was normal. He would leave for town from time to time and return later. Something in my gut told me otherwise. "Varden!! Where's Rowan?" asked warlord Bishop. "The council meets under the full moon tonight. HE NEEDS TO BE THERE!" "I'll find him Bishop like I normally do."
After grabbing some supplies and readying my weapons and armor I make my way to Rowan's tent. Searching around I find his tent in disarray, things haphazardly thrown here and there."What's this?' I say. Looks like a piece of hair caught on the flap of Rowan's tent door."Doesn't look like Rowan's. Over by his weapon rack a strange footprint" Something or someone was here. No evidence of a struggle or fight. I didn't hear anything other than Rowan's snoring a couple of nights ago. Looks like he headed toward town.
After making my way outside the Dragoon encampment I find Rowan's boot tracks. He should be easy to track. Probably at the tavern again drinking and telling stories. Good times as I quicken by pace toward town. I think to myself "I wonder what kind of trouble he's gotten into this time." Nothing that Rowan can't handle. I just need to let him know about the meeting of the council.

((OOC: you have to find the good in people, Ematai...))
Corporal Buttlebee and Sergeant Ruffel hurried along with their prisoners, heads of a local prostitution ring, in tow through some of the sleaziest streets in the realm.
Ruffel thought to himself as he pulled the struggling harlot through alleyways more treacherous than any battlefield. The amount of low-lives and crime seemed disproportional to such a small town. But Captain Shalimar was going to whip this town into shape. He'd promised it after Baxter "Buttlebee" Bumbler, then only an adolescent, ran into the old watch office several years ago, crying. His mother had been stabbed defending Buttlebee's younger siblings, who had been kidnapped by a surprisingly young girl and her accomplice and presumably taken out of the city.
Captain Shalimar was furious at the lack of response and was now working to whip the Watch into a force that was both formidable and flexible. It wasn't easy for many of the veteran watchmen, but this new system seemed to have a certain light about it that made the new task of restoring the town seem plausible, if not completely possible.
Buttlebee had signed up then and there and was assigned to Sergent Ruffle, the decidedly most upstanding officer on the force. He was honorable to a fault.
It had been a big incident then, what with 3 or four children being kidnapped along with their mother murdered. Ruffel, and well, everyone, thought that Buttlebee's siblings were lost. Had thought so, until the kidnapper had reappeared. Now there was hope, and every member of the watch who's hearts were wrenched by Buttlebee's plight those 2 years ago, were doing their darnedest to track down this girl.
She wasn't ordinary per-se. The kidnapper looked ordinary, as ordinary as you could look going from day to day dressed head-to-toe in black. The extraordinary thing was conjectured by Doctor Jovi, and later verified by various un-savoury characters around the city whom she had worked with.
Ruffel was alarmed when he found out they were tracking, not only a killer and kidnapper, but a psychopath too. The kidnapper, Ematai, they called her, was prone to vivid hallucinations. She refered to anyone who carried a weapon and that was disliked by her as being in the "Army". Her victims were "orphans" and she was taking care of them.
The "Army" reference and the frequent acts of violence caused Doctor Jovi to propose that it was post-traumatic stress disorder, and that she was probably reliving days spent in a ghetto under enemy occupation.
Many of the older Watch officers understood, as many of them were veterans of some sort and had seen this sort of thing... Ruffel understood. his father had occasionsally shouted "Charlie" and dove behind a piece of furniture when startled. But this was going too far, people were getting hurt.
Ruffle glanced up ahead towards the Hedgerow Lockup, quickening his pace and setting his resolve. They'd change things, one criminal at a time, one more trial held. Hedgerow would be returned to its former pristine state. He glanced over as Buttlebee shoved his prisoner gently but firmly into a cell, they would make sure of it.

[This is my angry ooc post]
The two men immediately attack Rowan as soon as he is hidden in the shadows of the two buildings. Rowan fights back beautifully but he is a little slow with his mead still in his system, and since he walked a great deal that day and was tired. He soon tired out from keeping both men off of him. They punched him and kicked him, and soon his world was black on the edges from his last blow to the head.Buttlebee and Ruffel, the two brigandage men, was punching a boy. Buttlebee was holding the boy and Ruffel was punching. Ruffel seemed a little beat up, blood was dripping down his left arm and his shirt was slashed, blood slowly soaking his shirt.Ematai knew those men, she use to hang out with them a few years back before she decided to head out on her own and not kill people just to get money. She shook her head and pulled out her sword. She threw off her cloak and quickly walked to the alleyway with lamp in tow, who was stowing the money in his more secure pocket. He pulled out a dagger and rushed in after Ematai. Ematai pulled her sword back and then plunged it into the back of Ruffel, Lamp following and jumped onto Shadow, stabbing quickly at Buttlebee. When Buttlebee let go of Shadow, Lamp used Shadow as leverage and jumped ontop of Buttlebee, his slashing and stabbing continueing, easily evading Buttlebees punches. Soon both brigandages were on the ground being looted by Ematai. She knew there was a bounty on each of their heads but she couldn't bring them in, for there was one on their head.
[CHARLIE, Don't try and make them good guys. DON'T! Here I CLEARLY stated that they ARE NOT. You can make up your own guys who are in the army but DON'T JUST IGNORE WHAT I WROTE!]

Finding the good in people is fine. But when two characters are introduced as murderers and brigands, dont change them. This is a light and flowing fantasy story. Bad guys are bad guys and such.
