Can you make shields out of wood, or is that not legal? I was thinking 3/8" ply wood with 3 layers of blue foam stuff. If not where do I get the type of styrofoam that is used in the practice shields? Thanks

Oh yeah, that's perfectly fine!
With a cored shield like that, you'll most likely want to make it a strap shield, with 3 or 4 layers of blue on the front, and 3 on the edges. Padding the back some too is also a good idea.

mookie's knees agree with having at least a layer on the back side where your knees will be.
