Yeah, I expect the freezing/flooding issues of the last 2 years won't be much of an issue with the later date this year. Here's to hoping! Always prepare for the worst tho', bring extra warmth and a canvas for under your tents in the very least!

Well, it looks like the Kentucky Derby thing fell through. I guess that means that my schedule is clear for this Olympics thing.

Apparently, the weight limiltation for all gear and rider that a horse can carry is 126 lbs. Assuming the gear weighs 10 lbs that only leaves 116 for me. I don't think I can lose 49 lbs by the end of them month (or ever for that matter).

I will now for sure be going to O's now. It is to be my B-day gift from my family. I have been looking forward to finally getting to go all winter than closing on are new house made a cash flow problem. But when I asked the parents and in-laws could you just gift some cash to go to this Event for Dagorhir and they all say if thats what you want no problem. So i will be there. Now if only i had another b-day to get some cash to be able to do Rag for the 1st time too hehe.

Osric - You apparently have an awesome family! Perhaps Ragnarok = early Christmas gift?
Olympics will be my first major event too. Thanks to everyone who posted advice, it is really helpful for those who haven't been to an event yet!

The following is taken from a writing by Kyrax on the Ragnarok 24 website (http://www.dagorhir.com/ragnarok/packinglist.html)
This list can be scaled down for Olympics.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Basics: Mundane clothes, underwear and lots of socks 2 Towels, washcloth Soap, toothpaste, shampoo (camping soap dish and toothbrush holders are recommended) Razor and shaving cream (if needed) Hairbrush, toothbrush, etc. Prescription medicines in the original packaging.
Dagorhir Gear: Garb, Garb and more Garb (you can never have enough) Period footwear Dagorhir weapons and shields Period Drinking Vessel (Horn, Mug, or goblet) Belt and pouch Period feasting gear, Candles and candlesticks Duct Tape, Glue, and spare foam for weapon repair
Optional: Armor Jewelry, bracelets, torc, elf ears Carrying bag made of canvas, leather or other period materials. Costume dagger or sword (keep it away from the field) musical instruments (including drums) Cloak Rag T-shirts for wearing to the store
Camping Gear: Tent Tent stakes Rope Knife Camping pad or air mattress (for sleeping on, not making weapons) Sleeping bag or several blankets Toilet paper First Aid kit Sunscreen Money
Optional: Laundry soap (there are machines at the Camp Store and a Laundromat in town) Solar Shower More Money
Units or groups of friends camping together try to arrange to bring things like these for group use: Tarp or dining fly Cooler Water or Drink Jug Torches, lantern or oil lamp (and candles or fuel as needed) Chairs or benches Grill or grill baskets or camping stove Bow Saw, Axe or hatchet Shovel Bulk trash bags Cooking gear, BBQ tools (Long Fork, spatula and tongs)
Make as much garb as you can, and try to have some warmer garb for cool evenings and cooler garb for the hot days. And if it is Ragnarok, it will rain, and when it is not it will get hot. A cloak or poncho is a necessity. Leave a clean set of mundane clothes in the car for the ride home (where they’ll stay dry). A good hint is to buy an extra box of plastic trash bags and then put all of your clothing bags into them just in case your tent gets flooded. If you cannot sew, bribe someone who can to help you make garb, or ask them to help you learn how.
I know that the above list looks long and daunting to a new Dagorhirrim, and all I can say is work on one thing at a time. I always set myself a goal of one new thing for a big event like Ragnarok, like a tunic, a new weapon, and so on. Over time you’ll gather more and more things to make Ragnarok and other Dagorhir events even more fun. Look in consignment shops, secondhand stores, Flea markets and yard sales for jewelry, feasting gear, camping items and costuming. Big decorative candles often end up in these places at low prices, and so do BBQ tools. They are also great sources for wooden bowls, mugs, goblets and other feasting gear.
Good Luck packing. I’ll see you at Ragnarok!
