Typically bought at Goodwill for 3-4 dollars apiece. 11 for $50 is a tad on the high side, but that's best I can tell ya.

The thing about Graphite shafts is that you can't tell if they are worth it until your hacked off the head and looked into / at the shaft.

One- That they are ACTUALLY graphite and not graphite over ((other)) material. That the walls aren't paper thin. And that the shaft isn't splitting or torqued.

The Ol' Ball and Chain shop on Coliseum may have some clubs with graphite shafts as well.

Depends on the club. If you go through the loose clubs bin you may be able to find some graphite shafts for at most 8 bucks.

That's a lot IMO when I can score 6-8 on half price day at good will for $8

For $8-12 I could probably have my brother (a local golf pro) order a few shafts that are shiny and new. Not that we don't appreciate the input, just putting things into perspective.
We generally spend at most $2 on a core. Graphite isn't that much lighter than the plastic piping, is harder to weight for balance (must use wire, can't use nuts, bolts, or coin as easily) and they are prone to breaking. The plastic piping we can buy enough for 3 or 4 weapons for $2-5. The kitespar is about $1.25 a piece and we use about 2 for a standard core, it's just about as light as the graphite, and it's more durable. No one is going to pay $8-12 for a graphite core when the alternatives are so much cheaper, and the benefit doesn't outweigh the cost. Generally graphite is just a preference, there are many fighters (like me) who rarely if ever touch the stuff because we have a build we know and love for our preferred weapons.
It's all about personal preference (and often the type of weapon you are using...graphite is great for clubs, but not as great for swords, and if you're building pole-arms band-shop is king), but generally we all agree on one thing: if the weapon costs more than $10 to make, you might as well buy a professionally built one.
