At the start, so my memory grants, years of torture in the dark hollows of a cave long forgotten to me. My only visitor was a goblin of a soft gender, Mother is what I called her. I learned little of my past from her. She told me of my father, an orc, who had forced upon her. She told me of how the goblins had taken me from birth and locked me away. Mostly she just kept me company.
I thought my life would go without change, until the night of the orc raid that had set me free. I sat in wait till a lone orc came to my cell. And as I hid in the corner I watched the door open. As soon as the figure stepped into the room I sprang and bit at his throat.
Now clothed and with a sword in hand, I set out to find Mother. I wondered through passages unknown to me for what seemed like forever. Then around a bend and into a room I saw her. As I made my first step toward her, her head left her shoulders. And as the body fell there stood an orc smiling. That face is burnt forever into memory. I am now on my own.
I knew I had to get out. So I hid, and as time passed and all grew silent, I made my way through the caves. The sweet smell of something, fresh, clean, and crisp drew me to an opening. And how my eyes hurt as the light broke over the trees. But the freedom felt to good to care.
Stumbling through the woods I happened upon a camp. There sitting across the fire was that face. In a daze I started to run. Jumping through the fire I thrust my sword into his gut.
I took his shield in my hands and started to beat him. By the time I was done the shield was stained in his blood. I stayed that night in his camp. In the morning I gathered all I could carry and set out into a world unknown.
In my travels I have learned a lot of the ways of man, as I stayed hidden in the shadows. Though the best lesson I have learned was after I was discovered by a man, a chieftan of a land known as the Northern Steppes, that I need not to live a life in the shadows. But rather live with honor in the field of battle. So I made an alliance with the warriors of this land. It is here I stay and train till I am needed to heed the call of battle.
