Greetings, I am Thamior, son of Aldrac, but you can also call me Taylor. I am currently at DeKalb Middle School in Waterloo, north of Fort Wayne. My friends and I are all 14 and looking to start a 'youth' chapter. I was wondering if three others and myself can participate in one of your practices to see how it works and what it's like. It is unlikely any of us will have garb and I told them not to make any weapons until we can get to another chapter's practice, although my garb is in the works.

(Disclaimer; I am not a chapter leader. This is not official. This is just what I have heard from the leaders in the past)
Probably the best thing you could do is bring all of your parents to a practice and talk to someone directly.
We need direct "in-person" permission to train anyone under 16 and anyone under 18 needs an signed in-person, or notarized, parental liability waver... so you will need both and we will bring some wavers for them to fill out.
OK...
Now if you want to start a youth Dagorhir group I'm sure we can find some way to help guide you on how to start, be organized, and work with you guys.
If you have the intent to do this sport I would rather you have well made SAFE weapons and some training than just wrapping a baseball bat with some packing foam and hitting each other.
I seriously think no one will want to take responsibility for a large group of Jr. Barbarian savages.
Find someone who will be your leader who is 18 or older, some youth group, church youth leader, YMCA, big brother person, school teacher, or parent willing to take responsibility for you, that will take away a LOT of possible problems, and we can go from there.

So, I only need my parents present at one meeting to get there permission? I have a teacher who would be more than willing to watch us if he can make it to the practices. Otherwise, we'll have at least 1 or 2 parents present during summer practices when school is not in session. I know what a weapon should be made with, how it should feel, etc. but I would rater have a chance to feel one in person and look at them, of course. If we come to a meeting, I'll let you know several day ahead of time that way, it's not a huge surprise. Chances are, none of us will have garb, but mine is currently in the works.

How you doing Thamior? It's great to see younger groups wanting to get involved.
Fury there summed up a lot of the more important things, but I'm just going to elaborate a bit.
As far as you guys fighting goes, if you're under 16, your parent has to be there with you whenever you practice with a sanctioned chapter, along with a waiver signed both by you, your parent/guardian, and a notary public. Once you hit 16, you only need the waiver.
As far as starting your own chapter, I want to say you need 2 members who are over 18 and can do all the paperwork, but the minimum age is then up to you guys. For national events and such, you'll have to be at least 16 to fight.
But like Fury said, you guys are more than welcome to bribe your parents into bringing you to one of our practices and checking it out. We're at Shoaff Park here in Ft. Wayne, Wednesdays at 4pm and Sundays at 1pm, like Fury mentioned.
Good luck and Happy Fighting!

Glad to know you're interested in starting/joining a group.
Everyone has said it and I guess I'll make it official. We need parents out there as it makes us feel a lil more comfortable about having younger fighters out there. I know there have been talks in a national sense about a youth league and with a few modifications to the rules it could easily be done.
In terms of fighting with us, for people under the age of 16 its a very case by case basis depending on the maturity (physical and mental) of the fighters.
We are more then willing and would be happy to show you how to make weapons and what not. Dont worry about garb, it takes time and its nice to see all the different options before you decide to spend the time doing it yourself.
We do practice at Shoaff park on Wed at 4 pm and Sundays at 1 pm. If you would want to come out and check us out let us know in advance if you could. We practice near the back before the baseball fields near the water park thing.
Hope to see you at some point
