A few people have been asking me about the LARP I run. So I thought I'd just post a base introduction about it here.
The LARP is called Shiftedlands. Its been around for 12+ years and I have been a player for 10 and helping to run the game for 8. We have a chapter here in the Ft. Wane area that I run with my friend Brent and a few other guys we are training on how to run a LARP. There is also a chapter up in the Holly MI area, that is the "home" chapter.
Similarities between ShiftedLands (here known as SL) and dagorhir: The only real thing they have in common is that you have to wear garb and that it is a physical combat game.
Differences between SL and Dagorhir: Biggest difference is that you must Role-play your character, and that it isn't all combat- all the time like in Dag. Second it is light touch / tap fighting. No full strength or full contact.
SL has actual charicter sheets, stats, numbers, plot lines and a structured rules system for things like Magic, Racial skills, Crafting (blacksmithing, brewing, gem cutting, lock-picking etc.). It is a completely different essence then Dag.
But its the differences that make it great. LARPIng isn't for everybody, much like playing Dungeons and Dragons doesn't appeal to everybody. But if you are interested in learning more, Please contact me, or look at the rules and history and an introduction to larp (and Shiftedlands) at www.shiftedlands.com .
