I was skimming the Dag boards, and came across a link to this stuff: www.foambymail.com/Polyethylene.htmland I wasn't sure if it's the kind of stuff that could be used for shields/weapon blades ( for those of us too lazy to glue a bunch of the foam together, lol.) Any thoughts?

Well, the fiberglass core sword how-to on the main Dag site says...
I would assume since this stuff is "closed cell foam" and comes in 1-inch and 2-inch wide strips that it would be usable for some construction. If you're talking about the foam cylinders tho' I'd imagine that'd be a negative, since Dag has very extensive rules about how many layers of how much foam padding there has to be and where, and it is usually layered. I don't think the cylinders would meet an equivalent structure, tho' that's for someone with weapon check-in knowledge to comment on I'd imagine.

Yeah, thats why I was asking. Cuz I've seen weapons that are not much more than PVC core with a dowel rod inside, a pool noole over that, and then a layer of blue foam on top, eh Rowan?

pool noodles: a good quicky sword that may last at most a month. It seems the pool noodles break down really quickly, even with a layer of blue on the outside. and sometimes it hard for them to stick to cores if the diameter isn't the right size. It is legal, but discouraged after a while. Its not so much how many layers, but the thickness of the padding. Lamp has used shield foam before on a club, it lasted a while, but obviously its harder to put together and the material wasn't made for that much of strenuous activity.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it is what we use for shields, but after looking at my shield, and then at one of the weapons that "mysteriously" turned up after the event, I concluded that all shield foam is is just a bunch of layers of closed cell foam. That little sword that I think Thanix claimed is pretty much just that, some light core with that foam for the blade. So, I figured, why can't we do that, instead of being the victims of DAP-induced headaches and dementia? not for everything, granted, but here and there. Might save a lot of time, eh?
