As more and more new fighters and friends join our ranks, I just wanted to offer something for them to contemplate. If you wish, consider this a recruitment post; however I feel it is more an informational post.
The Tou Fuu Shogunate is a relatively new and growing unit, however it is not entirely dedicated to samurai or even combat. The Mao Monastery is sort of the spiritual wing of the Shogunate and though we are geared for Sohei (warrior monks) we are also interested in producing artwork, performing/instructing cultural rites such as tea ceremony, providing musical entertainment for events, engaging as combat healers, and a multitude of non-combative / combat-light stuff. The Shogunate also seeks to provide a home for kabuki / geisha performers and other non-combative things. For fighters, aside from the Mao sohei, there is a clan for shinobi / ninja as well, and 3 great samurai clans. So there are many options for those who are interested in things of an Oriental nature.
In addition, the Mao Monastery is not restricted to the Shogunate unit. One can train with us or assist us in non-combative needs without joining with the Shogunate on the field. Though I technically serve as the representative of the Shogun for the Northern Steppes, I am not a daimyo (domain lord / officer), for I am not a samurai. The Monastery is allied to the Shogunate and typically those who are not members of a unit are encouraged to fight and hang out with the Shogunate unit, but it is not a requirement, our monks may join any unit that is suitable (i.e. you prolly shouldn't join Mordor, etc.).
And on a final note, for those spiritual pre-christian religion types who are interested in finding a suitable persona in Dagorhir that will allow them to express themselves in a unique way (i.e. non-Celtic), the Yamabushi monks practice a unique mountain aesthetic pseudo-religion known as Shugendo, which is very nature-based and ecclectic. I feel it is important for people in contemplating their personas in Dagorhir to pick one that allows them to freely express themselves in ways that are difficult to do in a mundane setting. For those who are deeply spiritual, Dagorhir events can be a great way to do so, particularly during feasting/camping stuff.
