Okay, admittedly, "lie" might have been a bit harsh (Goshawk even said it might have been a bit "strong"), but there's still some fudging there. I definitely think "Full Contact Battle Sport" is much more in line with what Dag actually is.
And honestly.....seriously....no role play?? Cmon! We get dressed up in medieval-ish (or some other period) garb, go by a different name on the field, and even fight in non-conventional styles. Whether you like to admit it or not, there is always a varying degree of RP that goes on at Dag. If there wasn't, everyone would be in sweatpants/t-shirts and calling themselves by their real names. Embrace your nerd-dom peeps, it's who we are, who cares if some D-bag puts graffiti on our fliers? Getting spit on by jocks is part of what brings people out to Dag in the first place, lol.

See therein lies the fun and the problem of the dagorhir. It is open to everyone, we allow stick jocks, larpers and those in the mid. If we advertise combat only, we might lose someone that wanted a lil more larp. if we advertise larp, then well people will write 'larping' on the fliers...so what. we are what we are. I dont let what people assume based upon not knowing the truth bother me. If they do they do, whatever. Medieval Combat Club/Sport is what I'd feel comfy with. I know the Voldemort realm based in Illinois is called the Illionois Medieval Combat Club I think. I think it puts it out there what we are doing pretty well.
We're not jumping on you Fury, I appreciate what you're doing. I know stuff like this is hard work. I have talked to Athron and some other guys who ran campus groups some steps to take and I think that will help us out too.

mmmm... full contact battle sport..... I like the way that sounds... Gotta be careful not to ad an 'N between full contact and battle sport when we abbreviate. (FCNBS)
It's the ISU Medieval Combat Club if I remember correctly.

One more thing...
I've noticed this in a few posts, but the IPFW club is being referred to as the IPFW "Chapter". Is this intentional? As in, is the point of this club to be something separate from the Northern Steppes or is it merely a mis-statement by certain individuals? This is honestly just a question, but I'm ignorant to the actual fact of the matter...and would be rather bothered if it was intended to be separate from the Northern Steppes.
Peace.

The IPFW group was originally labeled a "subchapter" of the Northern Steppes, that may be where the confusion has come in and the reference to the group as a "chapter". Your fears there are completely understandable, but likely drawn from confusion on the part of those who stated it as such. I can assure you Fury has no intentions of a coup de'tat. lol :-)

I shall refer to it as the IPFW Medieval Combat Club, just out of spite. :-P

agreed, for all intents and purposes, they are the Northern Steppes. The club part of it is purely for naming purposes for the college. They aren't a sub chapter, they are part of the chapter just as much as any body else

After walking around campus the other day I noticed fliers that said in big bold letters saying "LOOKING FOR AN ADVISOR".
So I was thinking maybe if i get the courage up ill ask my former history professor he seems like a cool dude and might be willing to help out. Also, did someone think about asking around in the anthropology department. They deal with topics like social behavior and it might be interesting for them to see a different kind of sport then the traditional ones we might think of.
Im sorry about about jumping in on this almost about a month late but i didnt know if making a new thread was appropriate. And if this counts as a necro post then ill surely takes my hits for it

It's never to late to add good ideas. Though, about the anthro department. My gf (Goshawk) is an anthro major, and as far as I've heard from her...groups like ours aren't looked at very highly because we're not really re-ena ctors of a sort. I'm not saying that's the opinion of every one of them, but it's definitely what she's heard among the department.
