Just completed a club and was wondering how I could make it look a little cooler. Got the idea of attaching various 50 cent piece sized plugs to the striking surface to resemble the studs found on some maces. As far as I can tell from Dag rules and such this is legal. I've cut them from camp foam and it sure looks to me as if they wouldn't add any element of danger to a weapon that has already past inspection. Wondering if there is any thought on this or past precedence. I'm not real keen on cutting out a bunch of these dapping them on to "look neat" then be told "looks nice but no go for safety reason X."
Any of you veteran NSers see a problem with this idea or have words of wisdom?

from my trails of the foam i find keep it simple, keep it safe, and keep it secret ... no no thats not it... make the weapon durable so it holds up for the longest time possible.

I would say give it a shot, use some kind of key hole driller or other cutting stencil to reduce cutting time. I dont see why it would effect the strike.
It will however give chances for them to rip off and float under your cover.
I have seen people make the 3rd layer out of the "other" blue wallmart camp pad foam that has the egg crate look, that stuff does look like club studs when there is a cover on it.

Go for it. As long as its built properly THEN you add the "studs" it shouldn't be an issue!

I like the idea, but I'm afraid that using plugs won't hold up very long. There is the option of using a layering of the eggshell style foam on the outside layer and shaving off the bubbles so that you are only left with the desired look. Provided everything else is up to spec, it should be good and might hold its form better. It would be a bit more expensive though.
I'm sure there are probably some other ways to produce little stud like things on the outer layer that would be safe, but I'm fondest of the eggshell method myself. Your plugs might work, too, no way to know without trying. I would say if you are going to do the plugs, you may want to get a pantyhose sock or tights or something similar and use that to pre-cover it to help it hold its shape/placement on the striking surface so you don't end up with a bunch of foam "coins" at the bottom of your cover if the glue breaks down. If you are confused to what I mean, I can show you.
And I'm spent on ideas. :-)
